How to make Chicken Teriyaki Sushi
Chicken teriyaki Sushi is made with chicken cooked in teriyaki Sauce, Rice, Nori and vegetables of your choice.
It is served with pickled ginger, wasabi and Soy Sauce. You can use Cucumbers, avocados and carrots in your sushi Roll. Toasted sesame seeds can also be used to garnish the rolls.
What I love about making Sushi rolls at home is the flexibility of ingredients. We can always try different fillings. It depends on the availability of ingredients and our preference.
Sauces that are served with Chicken Teriyaki Sushi
Chicken teriyaki Sushi is served with Pickled ginger, Wasabi and Soy Sauce.
Ingredients used to make Chicken teriyaki Sushi
Boneless chicken breast | 2 |
Mirin | 2 Tbsp |
Soy Sauce | 1/4 cup |
Sake | 2 Tbsp |
Rice | 2 cups |
Nori Sheets | 4 |
Black pepper | as per taste |
Ginger | 1 Tbsp grated |
Garlic | 2 cloves minced |
Olive Oil | 1 Tbsp |
Cucumber | 1 |
Instructions to follow:
- Prepare the teriyaki chicken. Cut the chicken into thin, long strips. Marinate it with soy sauce, mirin, black pepper, grated ginger and garlic. Give it a good mix. Set it aside for 30 minutes.
- For sushi rice, use short-grain Japanese Rice. You can use my Instant Pot Sushi Rice recipe. After your Rice is ready, season them with Rice Vinegar and sugar. Use the cut and slice method so that each grain is flavoured. But be gentle to avoid mashing the Rice.
- In a pan, take 1 Tbsp oil. Put marinated chicken in the pan. Cook it on medium flame till the chicken turns golden brown. Chicken should be cooked but not over cooked. Over cooked chicken can become dry. Be careful not to burn it as the sauce has sugar in it. Set chicken teriyaki aside.
- Juvenile a cucumber in thin slices.
- Assemble the rolls. Cut the Nori sheet in half. Put it on a Bamboo mat. Wet your hands with water. Take Rice and place a layer on the Nori sheet, leaving about half an inch from the top edge.
- Next, place chicken teriyaki in a horizontal line with thinly sliced cucumbers. You can also add avocados or carrots.
- Roll the sheet using a bamboo mat. Put pressure on the roll while folding it to assemble it tightly. When done, set the rolls aside. To cut the rolls evenly, use a sharp knife and wet it between cuttings.
- Cut your rolls into 6 or 8 pieces. Voila, your chicken teriyaki Sushi Rolls are ready to roll.
Expert Tips
- Cover your bamboo mat with pastic cling. This will prevent the rice from sticking to the mat. And cleaning will be easy too.
- Marinate the chicken for atleast 30 minutes.
- Sushi Rice are super sticky. Wet your hands before handling Rice.
- You can use Store bought Teriyaki Sauce also.
- Dont over cook chicken. It will become very dry.
